We started thinking about adopting Charlie last July. We applied with an agency and sent our Letter of Intent to adopt him in August. To us, that seems like a long time ago. For months, we worked so hard jumping through the hoops covered in red tape, and then we waited. And waited. And waited. All the while, that boy we were waiting for had no idea. He was just going about his business having fun. He was probably hoping for a family, but didn't know if or when that day would come. He watched many boys and girls get adopted all around him, and wondered when it would be his turn...
Well, his turn has come! We got an email this morning saying they told him yesterday that he has a FAMILY! They said he was very happy and excited and immediately wanted to know when he could go to the US. They showed him a Power Point presentation that we had made introducing our family. In that, we said that Sam likes Legos, Star Wars and Angry Birds. They said afterwards Charlie went to his room and got his Angry Bird pin and wore it the rest of the day, since his brother likes Angry Birds too!
"His only concern was that the cats might not like him because he has never been around cats before. I told him they are very friendly and that if he has anything else he is worried about he can tell his mom and dad and they will help him, and he was very happy. He usually needs a bit of reassurance that people like him, but he has improved a lot on that. His teachers give him tasks and he loves helping and it makes him feel very special."
I thought that was so cute. He wasn't scared of the cats, he just thought they may not like HIM. I responded back and said that when he comes home he can be in charge of feeding them, if he wants, and then they will love him for sure!
We hope to Skype with him in a few weeks. Can you imagine?!
Sorry if this has been mentioned previously, but the response you got seemed to be from someone very familiar with English. Is Charlie at a foster home where they speak English? If so, wow! That should make his transition so much less frustrating!
