We had a long but good flight over the ocean. The kids were rock stars on the flight. Kate slept a lot and Sam was endlessly
entertained by limitless movies. We
arrived to Beijing around 7:30pm and were in bed soon after. The next morning (Friday) after a breakfast
buffet of congee, rice, tomatoes and cauliflower, we got to go to Bethel. (More on that in previous blog.)
That evening we went to a famous duck restaurant and had
Chinese duck “tacos”. I wish I had taken
a picture! They were delicious. After dinner we went to a Kung Fu Show, which
was very good, but despite the amazing performers, we all found it difficult to
stay awake.
Saturday morning after breakfast we headed to The Great
Wall. We went to the JuYung Pass this
time, which was different from the part we went on our last trip to China. It was further North, and a much more
strenuous part of the Wall. I am afraid
of heights and was dizzy almost instantly.
I stayed pretty close to the bottom while the rest of our group
(including our kids) were amazing troopers and completed a very strenuous hike
up and back down a very difficult route.
According to Stephen it was amazing, and his pictures prove it.
Then that night we went to an acrobatic show. We thought that meant people would be
swinging from the ceiling and things like that, but it was more like amazing
tricks and fun circus stunts. I wish we
could’ve taken pictures, it was pretty cool.
Chinese people are known to be quite flexible!
Sunday morning we went to Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden
City. Something neat to see, and a huge
part of Chinese history. It felt a
little ironic to be explaining communism and freedom of speech, etc to our kids
the day after July 4th. We
love a lot about China, but are very glad to live in America. There was lots of walking, lots of people,
and lots of picture-taking of our kids.
There were very few foreigners there, and our kids were practical
celebrities. They were good sports
though. And Kate fit right in with her sun hat and umbrella!
